Let’s face it – Google Glass look kind of weird when worn. Even models have a hard time making it look good or comfortable. This alone could prevent Glass from reaching mainstream acceptance. But what if they could bring Google Glass technology to contact lens?
Google recently unveiled its smart contact lens. By fitting a tiny microchip to the surface of a contact lens, their technology can help diabetics manage their glucose levels. The sensor detects when glucose levels drop too low and the chip can communicate with other devices. Google’s product engineers are even experimenting with visual indicators by adding micro LED’s to the lens.
Could Google eventually take their smart lens to the next level and toss the glasses altogether? A contact lens with Glass’ full recording and sharing capabilities would be convenient, comfortable and invisible. Unfortunately, that last detail also means plenty of legal and privacy concerns bar this technology from becoming reality anytime soon.
