6. Michael Scott (The Office)
Despite his occasional ignorance and brashness, The Office’s Michael Scott is everyone’s dream boss. Steve Carell’s portrayal of the Dunder Mifflin manager is one of the funniest and at times, sincere, characters in TV history. Plus, there’s all of those amazing “That’s what she said” moments.
5. Walter White (Breaking Bad)
He’s Heisenberg, the baddest man to ever grace a TV set. From a mild mannered chemistry teacher to warlord of meth, Walter White’s incredible transformation is the stuff of legend. Thanks to Bryan Cranston’s Emmy winning performance, the one who knocks will live on as one of the most complex and cerebral characters in TV or film history.
4. The Joker (Batman franchise)
Maybe it’s because I’m such a huge Batman fan, but when you think of a villain, can you picture anyone better than the clown prince of crime? Heath Ledger’s Oscar winning performance as the Joker was absolutely perfect and brutal. What solidifies the portrayal is the way he completely embodied the complexity of Mr. J’s balance of chaos and genius.
3. Rocky Balboa (Rocky)
Sure, he was based on boxing warrior Chuck Wepner, but Rocky Balboa is the greatest fictional underdog in film history. His battles with Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang, and Ivan Drago are some of the most iconic and epic of all time. Combine those scenes with Sly’s ability to make the audience believe in him, and you have one of the recipe for a iconic character for the ages.
2. Forrest Gump (Forrest Gump)
Forget the Dos Equis dude, Forrest is the real most interesting man in the world. Just look at those credentials: college football star, war hero, ping pong legend, millionaire shrimping tycoon. Factor in his almost overly friendly personality, and you’ve got one of the most lovable characters of all time. Oh yeah, he also invented Elvis’ dance. So there’s that.
1. James Bond (James Bond franchise)
What else can really be said about 007. He’s the Ric Flair of the spy world. All the women want him, and all men want to be him. He may have been based on the novels of Ian Fleming, but England’s greatest weapon really made his mark in movie history. From “shaken, not stirred” to some of the memorable action scenes of all time, James Bond is one of the most influential characters ever.
