Fashion these days seems to focus too much on the body and not enough on the design details – producing designs that draw too much attention to our physical features, good or bad, and the spotlight is on the body and how the design complements our curves, cleavage, or if it can shrink our waist, and lengthen our legs
Children’s clothing, however, avoids this emphasis on the body- for obvious reasons. The result? Beautiful clothing designs that focus on detail, materials, accessories, color palate, and overall aesthetic appeal of the entire ensemble. In children’s fashion, we see pops of color, lace, and empire waists, which often times would be seen as fashion faux pas for a tall and slim woman to wear because she actively chose not to cinch the waist, and, instead, decided to cover her tiny mid-section with an empire design, which is still totally cute! What about big bright bows and lace decorated with little pearls? Or hot pink cowboy boots and dresses with ruffles up to our waists!? Even if we wanted to wear these designs, it is even hard to find them in adult sizes. So we are looking to children’s clothes for inspiration!
If we see past the social norms that dictate the dimensions of adult fashion and children’s fashion, what brands and designs would we love to wear?
This Parisian inspired look by Monnalisa sold by LOL Kids Armonk is just too adorable. If I wore this, I would probably look like I just failed at an audition for Midnight in Paris! Despite this fact, I wish they made this ensemble for adults.
This would have been the perfect Valentine’s Day outfit, if you wanted to look like a Victoria Secret Angel walking through the streets. Why can’t baby-doll dresses and feather trim be okay for adults to wear!?!
Next we have an amazing Camo Jumper by Monnalisa and sold at LOL Kids Armonk. The Jumper, which can also be called a Onesie, is a light gray, green, and pink camo print with ruffles, elastic, and a big bow. This is the perfect look for Spring. Acceptable or unacceptable for a adult to wear? Even though I might be labeled an Adult Baby…or some other weird label such as a ‘Want-to-Be Cherub’…I would totally wear this!
Trends in boys’ clothing for Spring 2014 appear heavy on the pastels, collared shirts, and button accents. The preppy ensembles resemble those that you would see from JCrew men’s collection. Either way, man or woman, I would totally wear these boys’ clothing items.
The first look we have is a light gray pullover with colored buttons and striped color-blocked elbow pads by Spitfire.
The next item we chose to feature are these amazing and adorable polkadot pants by Silvian Heach Kids. The pants are navy blue with periwinkle polkadots and a brown belt. The belt itself has beautiful details. Instead of just simple holes, the belt has cut-outs of stars, hearts, and squares. The attention to detail during the design of these pants is truly impeccable. We want them in adult sizes!
