After watching Penny Dreadful Season 1 Episode 2 “Seance”, I think it is safe to say that this Showtime TV series is going to test the limits of just how nutty a Primetime series can get. Reasons Why Penny Dreadful is Batshit Crazy
1. Dorian Gray and Brona Croft’s sex scene
Episode 2 introduces the characters of Dorian Gray and Brona Croft. Brona Croft is an Irish prostitute, who meets Dorian Gray at his lavish mansion for a photo shoot. Brona is suffering from a horrible sickness, and as she poses for Dorian Gray she begins to cough up blood all over herself. Dorian is unnatural turned on by this and one thing turns into another. The result is a very bloody sex scene…viewer discretion advised…
2. Vanessa Ives becomes possessed by a demon with a very dirty mouth.
Vanessa Ives attends a party at Mr. Lyles home when an unexpected seance begins. The spirit that appears possesses Vanessa Ives. At first it seems like Sir Malcolm’s daughter as a young child. And it is very creepy to see Eva Green impersonate a little girl. But then the spirit takes a whole other form. The “C” word is thrown around several times and the sexual vulgarity in this scene will make your skin crawl. Viewer discretion really advised…
