The local newspaper in Athens, Georgia had a bit of a mishap with their website this morning. An emergency broadcast banner was accidentally activated with a very unusual message. It brought not news of flooding, acts of terror or heatwaves but of the sun exploding.
They also told their readers to ignore the message as always. Of course, many people do ignore emergency alerts despite their emergency status, but this would be a rather unusual situation. Timothy Chester, VP for Information Technology at the University of Georgia, noticed the error this morning, saying that the jokesters were up early.

The Athens paper has since issued a retraction, saying that, ‘To our knowledge, the sun has not exploded.
