Clash of Clans players may have noticed that something is a (still) little creepy and/or kooky in their villages. Developer Supercell’s Halloween update introduced a number of Halloween decorations, traps, and obstacles that still haven’t gone away several days after the holiday has passed. The obstacles might be a fleeting specter of the season, but at least a couple of traps will stick around long after Halloween is but a faded memory.
New players that signed up during October were greeted by the first goblins of the game invading through a rather scruffy-looking village filled with jack-o-lanterns, creating quite an eerie visual that may have colored their perception of the game for some time. This was probably compounded by their first assault on a goblin village, in which their dead troops were instantly buried with classic “RIP” gravestones after their ghosts hung around for a few seconds. One might almost have thought that Clash of Clans was just a remarkably violent form of trick-or-treating.
But Supercell, always in the habit of introducing new features for its games in the holiday seasons, didn’t stop at just the aesthetic changes to Clash. They also debuted a brand new kind of trap: the Skeleton Trap. Possibly the creepiest trap ever created, the Skeleton Trap looks like a coffin with a skull drawn on it, but is hidden from sight until an enemy steps into its “blast radius.” Then, a ring of skeletons rises from the ground all around the unlucky soldier, attacking it with their aged blades. To make things worse, Skeleton Traps can also target airborne enemy units–making them the only traps that can attack both from the ground and from the air.
Many players may have hoped and prayed that these nightmarish traps would leave them be once November rolled around, but Supercell has left Skeleton Traps in the game permanently!
