2004 was a pretty epic year for entertainment, Mean Girls and Anchorman, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez broke up, Janet Jackson had her wardrobe malfunction. But 2004 was also an epic year for music. Now, ten years later, lets count down some of the biggest songs of ’04 and how you can’t believe it’s been 10 years already.
In 2004, Lohan was still teetering on the side of superstardom. With Mean Girls on her plate, she decided she should do as all young Disney actresses did before her and release an album. The result? The not-even-trying-to-be-subtle “Rumors.”
This video reminds us that our rap god Eminem was lonely-island-girltalk’ing before anybody else.
Thanks to this song, there exists a generation that will never mispell B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
Is there anything more 2004 than repetitive lyrics, laser shows and Lil’ John?
Evanesence’s “My Immortal” reminds me that I can listen to a song like 100 times and still not know the effing lyrics.
This music video still stands out as something above and beyond.
If this video taught me anything, it’s that you can totally ruin a ridiculously lovely and romantic song with a really, really stupid music video.
Here’s the thing, 10 years later and every girl in the club, in the bar, in the dorm, knows every word to this song and she will belt it out when someone inevitably plays it.
The center park, the drop tops, the icy lipgloss and orange eyeshadow. We should put this vide in a time capsule for future generations to truly appreciate that which was 2004.
Ryan Cabrera, where are you now? Does your hair still stand as tall? Did you ever recover from Ashlee Simpson dumping you? Wikipedia told me you dated Audrina Partridge until 2010, so I guess not much has changed.
This video reminds me of how much I miss the guyliner of the early 2000s.
Back when emo was a thing, back before Spiderman had been rebooted as a new movie franchise and musical, Vindicated stood as an anthem of a generation….of eighth graders.
I don’t care what you say, this music video is as perfect as the day it was released. This song is so distinct that it is untethered to any year.
This song is #1 because I can’t believe it’s a decade old. It was an instaclassic but there’s nothing dated about this tune. It could be surfing the radio waves in 2014 as easily as 2004.
