Two Dots is Like Crack, If I knew what Crack was Like

I know almost nothing about mobile games. I’ve never played 2048, I don’t even have Candy Crush downloaded on my phone. I just always thought I had better things to be doing than staring at my phone for hours on end. But I was so, so wrong. I downloaded two dots a few days ago and I literally cannot put it down. I’m constantly playing it when I’m not working (and sometimes when I am). I never thought a game would have me checking my phone as much as Two Dots does.

The great part about Two Dots is that it requires no skill: just connect two of more dots of the same color to remove them from the board. Watching those little dots disappear right before your eyes is freakishly satisfying. And the makers of the game gave it a story, too. You’re accompanying two explorer dots named Amelia and Jaques as they go to all these crazy places. The farther you move up in levels, the crazier the locations are: first you start in a cabin, then you dive underwater, scale a mountain, and escape a volcano. The way you play the game is always the same but adding the locations gives it a really nice touch. Because the game designer spent so much time making it look pretty I don’t feel as bad that I spend so much time trying to beat it.

Two Dots

At the beginning of each level you get an objective that you have to meet in a certain number of moves. The objectives start out easy – just clear a certain amount of dots of each color from the board in a certain amount of moves. In that way it’s a lot like its predecessor, dots, which was basically played the same way. But in dots you were trying to clear the board as quickly as possible so that you could get a high score. In two dots the goal is to move up levels. But as you move up levels the objectives and boards get trickier and trickier. For the levels I’m on you have to drop anchors off the board by getting them to the bottom row. I hear in the upper levels there’s fire and blocks of ice that you have to deal with, but I’m not there yet!

Seriously though, you really should try this game. It’s fun, easy to understand and play, and it looks pretty. Unless you have a lot of work to do this week. In which case you should stay far, far away. If you can’t help but feed your addiction, check out Two Dots Tips for help.
